Beacon Summer Day Camp

Discover a new world of adventure this summer in the safety and comfort of Beacon. This isn't just another summer camp: it is well designed to facilitate our regular academic program. We will be focusing on PROJECT WILD AND EXPLORING NATURE with experiential based activities structured around science. This interdisciplinary approach incorporates science, social studies, music, drama, and art through fun activities continues to strengthen brain development and increases academic achievement. The latest brain research finds music and art greatly enhance learning. Seminars offer opportunities to strengthen and develop new skills that will give your child a head start for the next school year.

For example, in on Ants on Parade, the children will begin with an ant hunt outside, learning about the habitats where ants live, their life cycle, structure of the ant hill, colony, types of ants in the colony, and how they communicate. Students will gather a variety of food items they think ants might eat, spread these around the ant habitat, and observe to watch the ants gather preferred foods. They will learn about ants including their body structures: antennae, thorax, abdomen, exoskeleton; life cycle; colonies and their contribution to the environment. Art will include thumb print ants and/or collages with a variety of media and ant eyes. They will make ants on a log for snack, and will learn songs related to ants and their body parts.
